Brenda Owens -- Kent County Employee of the Month
Published on October 20, 2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kent County Department Heads have selected Brenda Owens from the Kent County Recorder of Deeds Office as the October 2026 Employee of the Month.
Brenda currently serves as a Deed Clerk I and joined Kent County in August 2025. She brings more than 15 years of valuable experience to her role, having previously served as a Legal Assistant with the Law Office of Eckert, Seamans, Cherin, and Mellott, as well as a Legal Secretary with the
Law Office of Cynthia Beam.
In her current position, Brenda is responsible for reviewing documents submitted for recording to ensure they meet all applicable standards, including proper signatures, notary acknowledgments and seals, and required attachments. She also calculates recording fees and transfer taxes for deeds; performs data entry to accurately index parties on real estate documents and makes appropriate
notations; assists customers with researching documents using public computers; and provides
exceptional service to the general public.
In addition to her regular responsibilities, Brenda has taken ownership of assisting customers with Delaware's Transfer on Death Deed (TODD) program. Because TODDs require staff to provide accurate procedural information without crossing the line into unauthorized legal advice, they can
present unique challenges. Drawing on her extensive experience as a former legal professional,
Brenda demonstrates exceptional judgment by providing outstanding customer service while
consistently maintaining appropriate legal boundaries.
According to Recorder of Deeds, Gene Thornton, "Brenda's knowledge, professionalism,
dedication, and commitment to serving the public make her a tremendous asset to the Recorder of Deeds Office and Kent County."
Congratulations, Brenda, on being selected as Kent County's October 2026 Employee of the
Month! We appreciate your dedication and outstanding service to Kent County and its residents.
Brenda resides in Commissioner's Masten's and Pepper's districts.
