General Description
The Data and Security Administrator oversees the protection, integrity, and confidentiality of our organization's data assets by conducting regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and monitoring systems for security breaches or suspicious activities. This role also provides reporting and data analysis for the Information Technology Division, management, and other departments to ensure a comprehensive approach to data management and cyber security across the organization.
The position operates independently with limited supervision and reports to the Director of Information Technology within the Information Technology Division of the Administration Department.
Duties & Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions as necessary.
- Develops and implements data security policies and procedures to protect sensitive information from unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or destruction.
- Conducts regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and monitoring systems for security breaches or suspicious activities.
- Develops and implements incident response plans to address security breaches or incidents promptly and effectively.
- Ensures compliance with relevant data protection regulations and standards (including, but not limited to, HIPAA, PCI DSS) and remains up to date with industry best practices.
- Maintains the data integrity of our on-premises and cloud databases and ensures the integrity and usability of the data in regular operations.
- Educates staff on data security best practices and raises awareness about potential security threats and vulnerabilities.
- Manages and configures security tools such as antivirus software, intrusion detection/prevention systems, etc., to protect against threats.
- Works closely with the networking team to ensure a comprehensive approach to data security across the organization.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and adds to a positive, enthusiastic, and problem-solving work culture.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information management, business administration, or related field preferred, along with six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in information systems management. Must possess technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and experience with security tools, including intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), antivirus software, and SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) systems in both cloud and on-premise environments.
Additional Requirements
Advanced knowledge of various Endpoint Detection and Response and Managed Detection and Response systems to ensure comprehensive security coverage. Proficient in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Active Directory, data backup utilities, and restoration procedures. Familiar with cybersecurity standards, guidelines, and practices such as the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, Center for Internet Security Controls, and the MITRE ATT&CK knowledge base. Skilled in scripting, developing dashboards and data models, and generating reports or data extractions via SQL queries and scripts.
Possesses basic PC skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and file transfer. Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to monitor program performance post-implementation, follow oral and written directions, coordinate design and planning projects, supervise and evaluate the work of others, and prepare detailed reports. Capable of maintaining effective relationships with staff, supervisors, and the public, and communicating effectively.
Must pass testing for substance abuse and criminal background investigation. Must maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes harmonious relations with customers, co-workers, and supervisors. Direct deposit of pay is required.

This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in and walking between work areas may be required.

- Ability to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone
- Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator.
