On Tuesday, June 23, offices will be closed from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for an Employee Appreciation Luncheon and scheduled staff training session. During this period, the Administrative Complex will be inaccessible to the public, and in person services will be unavailable. Regular operations will resume promptly at 3:00 pm. If you plan to conduct business in the Complex, please plan accordingly.
In observance of the Juneteenth holiday, Kent County Levy Court offices will be closed on Friday, June 19. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a time for reflection, education, and recognition of the ongoing pursuit of equality. Normal operations will resume on Monday, June 22.
The Register of Wills Office records wills after death and other documents pertaining to estate matters in Kent County, Delaware. The Office is responsible for overseeing the appointments of personal representatives and for administering estate proceedings. This office is also held accountable for making sure that the estate is in compliance with the Delaware law and Kent County policies. All estate matters are maintained as permanent records.
The depositing of wills for Safekeeping in Kent County will launch on Monday, October 6, 2025! Please call our office to make an appointment to deposit your original will.

This office no longer retains certified death certificates. Once reviewed by a deputy and/or scanned in by a clerk, the certified death certificate will be returned to the person who submitted it.

Appointments are necessary to open the estate and to close the estate. Once a Deputy has reviewed your paperwork, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment to open the estate for probate. The Deputy will also inform you of the required fees. Fees are payable by cash or check or money order only.
